Continue ReadingBy investing in building and improving the capabilities of the competent authorities in the Western Balkans there will be a more sustainable footing for ensuring a favorable plant health status for the whole region over the long term. In addition, some priority EU plant quarantine pests occur in the interface between humans, plants and environment (like pine wood nematode or longhorn beetles).
The action will also enable the Western Balkans to become familiar and implement the One Health approach, in line with the EU’s acquis and best practices in this field.
The purpose is to ensure that Western Balkan parties are ready for accession to the EU from a sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) perspective enhancing capacity building of plant health services including the diagnostic laboratories of the region. This will help to ensure pest free (or EU equivalency status) recognized for the whole region over long-term enabling free access of plant products to EU markets.
The action will also enable the Western Balkans to become familiar and implement the One Health approach, in line with the EU’s acquis and best practices in this field.
