New Youtube channel with tutorials on Quarantine Plant Pests
Quarantine pests are regulated under plant health law based on risk assessments, as they can cause unacceptable damage to growing plants if they enter and spread to crops, forests, or other parts of the natural environment. Pathways for their introduction are subject to official controls. However, in biology and ecology, complete certainty about the actual situation is rarely possible. As a result, some pests do manage to enter and cause serious damage in vulnerable areas—such as the Pine Wood Nematode in Portugal or Olive Quick Decline Syndrome in Italy.
The PHWB project developed a series of online tutorials available on Youtube to share communication and educational materials about quarantine pests in Europe. Videos are subtitled and can be watched in local languages. The topics include:
- Application of survey protocols and MASP tools.
- Risk ranking and prioritisation.
- Data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Compliance with EU reporting standards and integration with Europhyt and IMSOC systems.
